App Designs and Themes

You can change how the Fleuron window looks, from its shapes and type to its colours. This only changes the app, never your book: for your book's look, see Applying Styles.

Choosing a design

Choose Fleuron ▸ Design and pick one of the ten designs:

  • Fleuron
  • Studio
  • Clarity
  • Native
  • Calm
  • Draft
  • Type Case
  • Liquid Glass
  • Glass
  • Onyx

The window changes straight away. A new design always starts with its own default colours; you can then pick one of its themes.

Choosing colours

Choose Fleuron ▸ Appearance and pick a theme. Every design has Light and Dark, plus colour themes of its own. For example, the Fleuron design has Linen, Evergreen, Sepia and Nord, and Draft has Paper, Inkwell and Solarized.

To follow your Mac's light or dark mode, choose Fleuron ▸ Appearance ▸ Match My Computer (Light or Dark).

You can also change the design and colours in Fleuron ▸ Settings… (⌘,), under Look.

Each book keeps its own look

Each book remembers the design and colours you used with it. When you have several books open, each in its own window, this lets you tell them apart at a glance. A book that has no look of its own yet takes the one you're using.

The Library window uses the design and colours you picked last.

Extras in some designs

A few designs add something useful:

  • Type Case shows a ruler above the text with your book's line length in print, and shows the import checks as notes in the margin beside the paragraph they're about.
  • Calm puts a tick beside each chapter in the sidebar once the import checks find nothing to fix in it.
  • Onyx shows keyboard shortcuts on some buttons.

Changing the preview background

To change what's behind the device in the preview, choose View ▸ Preview Background. Design’s Own matches your design. See Previewing Your Book.

Tip: Writing at night? A dark theme is easier on the eyes. The preview's page colour is separate: click Aa in the preview and choose Black to see your book as readers do in night mode.
